The largest painting I have done to date. This oil on canvas portrays Portland lighthouse, Dorset, at dusk. I have seen this view many times as the dive boat I am on, planes past on our way out to dive one of the many wrecks in the vacinity. The 'obelisk' at the end of the headland is a 'daymark' for navigation known as Trinity House Landmark. This Grade II Listed Monument was built in 1844 and made of Portland stone. The 'Race' refers to an area of rough water created by strong tidal currents that can be a significant hazard to small and large vessels!
